Mourning the Loss of a Visionary Leader — Samuel Goldman, PhD, Executive Director of Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, passed away unexpectedly at his home today.

Members of the Georgia Arts Network are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of friend and colleague Sam Goldman, longtime Executive Director of the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Sam was a part of the Georgia Arts Network almost since its inception as GACAA over 30 years ago. A frequent Board Member and a former President, Sam provided leadership and vision for our organization for decades. Sam’s kindness was legendary in the Georgia arts community, and the Arts Network wishes for that spirit of kindness and cooperation to be his legacy for our organization. We are inspired by Sam to continue to break down barriers within the arts and to forge new pathways for collaboration throughout Georgia.

It is with great sorrow that we announce that Samuel Goldman, PhD, Executive Director of Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 10, 2012.

Dr. Goldman began working at Callanwolde in 1979, doing various administrative jobs, and became executive director in 1998. For these 33 years he has shown the utmost dedication to providing arts to the community and to the mission of Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.

Sam will be greatly missed and we express our condolences to his long-term companion Tom, and to his family. The arts center will continue to move forward with the values and commitment to the arts that Sam inspired in us.

A memorial service will be held at Callanwolde at 10 am on Thursday, September 13, 2012 and is open to the public. In lieu of flowers, it is requested to send donations to Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.
